We Dig It! Do You? Richland’s Community Planting Inquiry

“We loved putting our hands in the dirt.”- A.K.After a long winter, we are all in need of some green therapy. To that end, Richland Academy’s Nature Club has been busy preparing our spring planters. It’s exciting to see the ‘gardening bug’ infest the entire school community, with everyone involved in this whole school inquiry. Each class has chosen their seeds and planted them in the planters. Everyone is looking forward to tending the seedlings and little plants, and to watch them grow strong enough to plant outdoors. The curricular links abound for this school wide investigation – math (ratios, charts, data management), literacy (stories and journals), and natural science; are just some of the links possible through this authentic learning experience. We look forward to sharing the growing process through Inquiring Minds, and watching the learning unfold in our classrooms. Here’s hoping for sunny days ahead!“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books.” – John Lubbock
