Building a Wooden Person in JK

This week, some of our JK students worked collaboratively to build a wooden person, with a head, arms, legs and a face.

“If I tape it then it will be strong,” said Arjun. Zen quietly worked at stabilizing the head and then making little paper hands to add to their piece.

This activity demonstrates how children truly do learn through play.  In this one activity they demonstrated:

  • Collaborative skills
  • Understanding of structures in terms of stability and balance
  • Fine motor skills by cutting out paper to make hands
  • Creativity and problem solving skills
